Last week, a friend of mine called me a “raving fan” in response to hearing about a product I support Although said as a compliment, my heart sank upon hearing their words.
One of the latest buzz phrases in business is a push to create “raving fans,” and I simply don’t want to be one.
Words have meaning and raving means wild, irrational or incoherent talk.
My enthusiasm for a product or a service comes from my positive experiences and active interest. Before I endorse a product, I actively learn more.
I want to be an educated fan. I hope my days of wild, irrational, and incoherent talk are far behind me. And, I hope the phrase “raving fan” quickly falls off the list of popular buzz phrases in business.
Active Interest
An active interest in a product happens when people are inspired to learn more. Talk is cheap. Education helps us make better choices.
Educated choices inspire me to share enthusiastically with others about the products I support.
An enthusiastic, educated fan is far from irrational and incoherent. They speak in a manner that is aligned with their beliefs and personal experience.
