90 Days
Let’s do a 90-Day Growth Plan. Exactly 18-weeks ago – that’s 126-days ago – Brent told me he was going to do a 90-Day Challenge.
He didn’t say it and then do it.
He didn’t say it and then forget it.
He just keeps talking about it without actually doing it.
Normally, I understand the struggle we all face in the gap between talking and doing. I spend my days helping people move from intention to outcome. I know how to be patient and encouraging – without judgement.
This time is different. With Brent, I’m bothered to the point of distraction. He knows what to do. He’s excited about doing it. And whenever he talks about it, I can’t stop wondering:
Why doesn’t he just do it??!
And why does this bother me so much??!
Judgement is an opportunity to look in the mirror. Instead of questioning someone else’s actions, I’ve learned it’s best to start by questioning my own actions.
Instead of judging Brent, I took a hard look at my own life. I wondered:
What am I thinking and/or saying without doing?
By taking the time for self-reflection, I found the gap between my words and my actions. It wasn’t a long list, but it definitely showed my opportunities for growth. I saw a pattern worth noting.
Although I am very good at keeping promises to others, I fall short when it's time to keep promises to myself.
In other words, it’s time to stop lying to myself and do the things I know I need to do to be my best self.
Armed with a healthy motivation to change, I called Brent and asked to do the 90-day Challenge with him. I summed up my intentions by simply saying:
I’m IN!
This is the moment Brent first told me about his 90-Day Challenge. It only took me 126 days to say:
I’m IN!
Brent was extremely inviting and encouraging. We talked about the best ways to support each other in our quest to be our best selves.
Brent thrives on structure. He created a 90-Day regiment called:
Brent’s Perfect Day
Repeat for 90 Days
I need more freedom to thrive. My 90-Day regiment consists of a healthy morning routine and a daily checklist. The trick of any truly effective growth plan is to find what works best for YOU.
The 90-day formula is a simple and proven way to develop new habits. Join us! Brent will post about his journey on a public forum. Follow @BrentBatterman on Instagram. I’ll stay private and report back in 90 days.
That’s how we bridge the gap between our words and our actions. We support others while keeping our focus on the only person we can control. And, we don’t waste time judging others.
The more I opened up about my own gap between my words and actions, Brent talked more about his gap – that 18-week/126-day gap. Brent couldn’t begin his 90-Day Challenge until his Doctor signed off on his plan. Brent wasn’t wasting time in the gap between talking and doing. He was researching and planning the best Growth Plan for BRENT.
We are all fighting battles no one else sees. And, we don’t have to do it alone.
Are you IN?
Let’s do a 90-Day Growth Plan together. Let’s support each other as we turn our talk into action.
