Support Systems
Let’s make new friends. A friend of mine is struggling with lopsided friendships and misguided loyalty.
Loyalty is one of my friend’s core traits. They easily develop lifelong bonds, and their support for others is unwavering. They are quick to offer time, money and steadfast support to any friend in need.
This bond of loyalty doesn’t always go both ways. As my friend strives to create a New Chapter in their life, they’re feeling a lack of support from old friends. Some old friends are even trash-talking behind their back.
My friend keeps hoping their old friends will change as they change. The more my friend expects of old friends, the more disappointed they become. My friend wonders:
Is it worth changing if I end up losing all my old friends?
This isn’t the first time my friend is thinking about sacrificing their own goals and dreams to keep old friendships. For years, my friend has been dimming their own light to stay loyal to their old friend group.
My friend’s struggle reminds me of a twist on an old nursery rhyme:
Make new friends,
But keep the old.
One is silver,
And the other, gold.
When creating New Chapters, new friends are the gold. I know it sounds cold, but my friend must realize:
The old is never gold when the past is holding you back.
New Chapters Need New Support Systems
New friends and new support systems will naturally show up as we embark on new adventures.
Friendships are formed by common interests and similar vibrations. As we grow into New Chapters, our vibe changes. Our new vibe attracts new friends.
This is my friend’s time to ascend. Keep the old only when they support the new. New Chapters need new support systems.
Let’s make new friends together. Let’s honor and support new vibes and new chapters.
