Time Out
Let’s be honest. There were signs.
First came the good signs. Business is booming. Everyone is well-trained. The team is operating at peak performance. Growth indicators continue to rise.
We have momentum.
The good things we do accelerate our growth. We are on pace for a record year.
With so many reasons to celebrate, I almost missed the other signs. They were quieter and more subtle.
I first noticed these whispered signs in our social media posts. The current themes are mostly about slowing down, taking a break, resting, and recharging. Our team conversations are becoming more about pause than progress.
Yes, there are signs. Each day, I am pushing a little harder to stay on pace. I feel tired. I look tired. Let’s be honest: I am tired.
Summer is the season of exponential growth, and I’m dreaming of a restorative winter. That’s a sign too big to ignore. Something has to change.
Achievement fatigue is the mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion that comes from relentlessly striving. Business without balance is not sustainable. Something has to change.
With this blog, I am announcing to the team.
It’s time for an All-Star Break!
Let’s do a physical and mental reset. Let’s take a real pause, a definitive rest, a healthy recharge.
Championship teams know the value of a well-timed time out. They rest between quarters. They reset at halftime. And when change is needed, they call:
“TIME OUT!”
This first week in July is the start of a new quarter and the start of a new half to the year. It’s the perfect time for a well-timed time out.
Let’s all take advantage of this extended holiday weekend by taking extended time off. Block your calendars and set your emails to be OOO.
Take a break before something breaks. The best way to win the game is to know when to call time out.
The time for a time out is now.
Let’s be honest. There were signs.
