Underwater

When life makes me feel overwhelmed and underwater, I survive and thrive by being underwater.

Sometimes, I can barely keep my head above water. That’s why I need the Summer Solstice as a reminder to pause, reset, and connect. These longer days are NOT meant for more work. Extra daylight is an opportunity for more fun.

Work will wait!

Now is the time to be outside, to be by water, to be in water, and to be underwater. It’s time to experience being underwater in the good way, the way that fills our lungs with joy and laughter instead of stress and worry.

The water is calling! It's time. Time to go off the deep end. Time to dive in.

These are the days to venture into the biggest body of water we can find. Take the plunge. Go under.

Being underwater changes everything. The moment I slide beneath the surface, my world changes. My demands disappear. My mind quiets. My body moves in weightless wonder. The water cleanses more than my skin. My spirit is renewed.

In the water, I breathe differently. Slow, steady, soothing. I’m aware of every breath. I intentionally take a slow breath in and a longer, deeper breath out.

I recently learned this rhythmic, conscious breathing improves my health. It triggers positive cellular change. It can increase my oxygen efficiency, reduce inflammation, increase red blood cell production, and reset my nervous system.

Apparently, the waves of water can set us free from our waves of worry.‍ ‍

Being underwater simply makes me smile. I can be ageless, timeless, and free. I can do handstands, cartwheels, and flips. I can be a dolphin, a sea turtle, a mermaid.

Underwater, I imagine I can do anything and be anything. And then I remember:

In the world both above and below, we can do anything and be anything.

Summer Solstice is now. Work can wait. The water is calling.
