Upgrade!
Change is an Upgrade. Nature designed it that way. But first comes the cleanse – the March winds, the sudden storms, the tornadoes, the lightning, the wildfires, the heavy rains, and the hail.
I never fully understood destruction until I recognized the seasons of our lives.
I once had a new manager bring hail to my tight-knit team. I was working for a big corporation at the time. We were unstoppable – until this new person arrived. Once hired, they systematically destroyed everyone and everything we built.
I left within months, but the pain stayed with me. As soon as I left, that new manager fired the hardest-working person on my team – a single mom of three with no other source of income. My pain multiplied.
The team was paralyzed by the fear of losing their jobs. Performance suffered and more people left. Fortunately for the people who stayed, the new manager was soon fired. The hardship was only temporary. Apparently, storms don’t last forever.
I hadn’t thought of this manager for years – until yesterday. A colleague called to seek advice about this person. The storm had hit their home.
All I could offer was confirmation. All I could feel was pain. I couldn’t shake the old memories until a trusted friend advised me:
“Stop being so mad at the messenger!! Be grateful for the people who pushed you to change!”
My trusted friend reminded me how great my story turned out. Difficult storms and difficult people are both a catalyst for change.
When the winds of change blow my way, I’m a big baby. I’ll cry, scream and complain. And then, I’ll remember change works out for the better. My trusted friend calls it an UPGRADE.
Every job change led to something better.
Every break up led to something better.
Every betrayal led to something better.
Every struggle led to something better.
Every storm has pushed me to be better, see better, become better. Every setback forced me to leap forward. Spring forward.
Every upset led me to an Upgrade. Now, I am grateful for the messengers. I understand the winds of March are needed and necessary to cleanse out the old. Soon, winter will be forgotten.
Change works out for the better. Nature designed it that way. Spring forward.
It’s Time to Upgrade!
